I can't believe it's December! My dreams to have everything done by December 1st were shattered when I realized it was the 4th today. Oh well! I do have most of the shopping done but I don't have a clue what I am doing for my Christmas card!
One thing we did do by December 1st was set up a little Christmas goal as a family. Our church is amazing in it's humanitarian efforts and every month in this area of the church we gather things for hygiene kits (toothbrush, comb, soap, towel etc). We are also collecting infant kits (socks, blankets, diapers, pins etc.) These kits send aid to areas hit by natural dissaters. Did you know that this humanitarian effort will typically cloth a million children a month? That is just children! Amazing!! We want to see what we can do as a family to work for and gather - as many of the items as we can!
The kids are to ask each day, "Mom (or Dad) what can I do today to- love one another?" Then they can do a task around the house (above and beyond their normal jobs) and earn one of the humanitarian objects. So, I made up the little chart above and cut the papers in strips so they would come off easily. They write their name on the back and stick them in this jar. When we get closer to Christmas we will cash in the little papers for the objects and they will come with us to deliver them.
It has been so fun to see their minds shift and hear them say things like, "Mom, should we get this for the kids who don't have any toys?" It has been so touching...
and the month has just begun!

That is wonderful. I think you are truly teaching your children to follow the example of Christ.
By the way - I just noticed your post on the "Holy War" -- posted a few of those myself.
Have you recovered from the loss? I'm not sure I ever will.
