I am the ringmaster in these parts~ of the midnight circus!
Let me take you through, act by act. I enter the ring some time around 11pm and try to get a little "rest" in before the show begins! Some time around 12 am, we'll call him, The Lion- decides to turn in and enters the ring to disturb my slumber. The Lion is quick to find "rest" and proceeds to disrupt me for the next two hours with his roar. I eventually send The Lion to sleep in another ring in hopes of some rest before the next act begins!
Some time around 2 am the little clowns enter the ring. The first clown is a sad clown. He has had a terrible dream. After some calming, he is okay and decides to climb back into his ring.
Around 3 am the second little clown is wet and in need of a bath and a costume change. This act takes at least 20 minutes. After changing the set and dressing the clown he is ready to enter back into the ring.
The third little clown is not feeling well this night. She is need of her binkie and blanket. She is quick to comfort and falls back to sleep but decides to do this several times throughout the show. She likes attention, that one!
I check on the other clowns and The Lion and find that the first clown is now in the ring with the second clown and The Lion. I move the second clown into the first clown's ring so that they aren't too crowded in there and now none of them are in their original ring. But, at least all the clowns and the Lion are finished with their acts.
Now the timing of the clowns is impeccable! Never do they overlap their shows! No, no- they make sure to spread them out throughout the night so that the show is as lengthy as possible! I think they want this ringmaster to earn her keep. Now there are external acts from the audience as well. There are phone calls as late as midnight and as early at 6am that interrupt the show. These are The Lion's fans and associates. They too have impeccable timing.
Sometimes this ringmaster's brother likes to send her text messages in between acts just to let her know important things like, his roommate drank all of his chocolate milk... you know, really important things that can't wait until the morning.
The show is flawless and the timing is really something of perfection! I came down in between acts to document it at it's best. Thankfully, I don't work the night shirft every night... but often enough to keep up my skills. I kinda get the hunch this isn't the only circus in town! Here's hoping you Ringmasters find rest soon!

All I can say, is you are funny! That is quite a stirring account of your evening activities:) Fortunately, my kids are all staying asleep...but I am dealing with some insomnia, darn pregnancy! Hopefully things will be better tonight!
Sounds like you have that down, like a pro! you are hilarious, such a good mom and sport! i am lucky, my kids have always slept good. (knock on wood)! College... there is no such thing as a clock! especially at night! too funny!love ya
Oh man, what a circus! Lucky the clowns and lion have such a nice ringmaster like you! I would be for hitting the road looking for new acts!:) I think my clowns trained at your clowns same circus as we have a lot of the same issues here!!
Too funny! I think you must be a very good ring master to be able to handle your clowns so well!
Ha! I love your comparison to a circus. It's so true.
great post. we had a circus here last night. our little clown got up at 2:30, 4:00 and 5:00 (he has the stomach flu). our lion kept hitting the snooze this morning to which this ringmaster almost rung his neck.
That was great! I can certainly relate!
I hope your night was OK last night, I couldn't imagine sleeing with a Lion, I sure need my sleep to function. I hope everything goes OK today with the girls, thanks so much!!
HA! HA! Too funny! Though I have to disagree, being out of chocolate milk really DOES sound like an emergency to me...
I know what you mean and I only have two!
Last night my oldest was throwing up, so that was a fun night. Hopefully tonight will be more quiet for both of us!
That is funny! Thanks for stopping by my blog it is nice to have a new friend with so much in common!
wow, thats a really cool way to see that, I've never thought about it like that before, great job!! I hope you got sleep!!! LA
this is precious... and so creatively written. you almost make it sound fun! i usually just head for the guest room and let my hub take care of it.
I'm right there with you. My kids, particularly the younger two came with built-in alarm clocks set for at least three or four wake ups a night. I love the circus idea-SO funny!!!
Oh my goodness Laura! I have been feeling bad about my 17mo old still waking up at night. I guess it never ends. My dream is when they are teenagers, then they'll sleep in :) The muddy buddies recipe is on the side or back of Chex cereal box - yummy! Also I did make my header (well with a lot of Pete's help)I'm not so great with technology. good luck!!
I ♥ your blog! Thanks for sharing :)
This post is brilliant! I love it and can definitely relate as a fellow ringmaster. I am stumbling this!
Very clever, Ty. And I joined a similar circus. My costume consists of well placed bags under my eyes. You know, gotta make the "show" believeable!
ok...seriously you need to write a book for the mother...you are so funny and this stuff is for real....mothers aka ringmasters would love to read that they are not the only circus in town...i think you could make millions writing this kind of stuff and making it into a book...you are such a good writer!! seriously laura...think about it!! then chip wouldnt have to work so hard either...well, i love to hear about you all and how life is up in utah! by the way, quincy's party looked amazing...sorry he got sick- i heard by the end he was throwing up :( but it sounds like he had fun while it lasted!
Love it.....I know just how you feel. Have you ever thought about writing a children's book....I think you'd be great at it! Writing is what I love to do. I'm actually in the middle of writing 3 books; 2 novels and a child's book as well. Maybe someday I'll fininsh, publish them, and become famous!!!!!...hehee.....I do love to dream. I guess I'm like my daddy whom I adore!:)
